One of the City of Eugene's public safety missions is to control the dog and cat population within the city limits in order to ensure a safe community environment. The City operates the Spay & Neuter Clinic which provides low cost spays and neuters and vaccinations for cats and dogs. The Clinic is a successful prevention strategy in helping to control Eugene's overall pet population.

Founded in January 2001, the Shelter Animal Resource Alliance (S.A.R.A.) is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization based in the Eugene/Springfield area of western Oregon. Our mission is to rescue, assist and advocate for dogs and cats at local and regional animal control shelters, we also assist other rescue groups when funds permit. S.A.R.A. cannot accept stray or owner released animals from the public.

Save the Pets is a non-profit 501(c)(3). Their goal is to help eliminate the pet overpopulation problem by increasing adoption rates in our community and educating people on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. They help local shelters and rescue groups by creating a venue to showcase their animals that are available for adoption. They have proven that off-site adoption events are successful which inspires them to move forward with their goal of opening an animal adoption center. Save the Pets is run solely by volunteers who advocate for the rights of animals to be treated with the respect and kindness they deserve. To date Save the Pets has helped to place over 300 animals into loving home since thier conception in April 2007.

Pro-Bone-O is a non-profit organization that provides free veterinary services for the pets of people who are homeless in the Lane County area. The services are provided through clinics held the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month throughout the year. The clinics are set up in space donated by St. Vincent dePaul at its Lindholm Service Center in Eugene, Oregon.
