Volunteers

West Coast Dog and Cat Rescue is always looking for people who love animals to help out. Some of the options are fostering, socializing, cleaning kennels, giving medications, transporting, paperwork, taking photos, doing laundry -- whatever your skills and interest, we can use them. Below are some of the areas in which we can use assistance:

Adoption Counselor - Help prospective adopters find the animal that is the best fit for their home. There's no better feeling than knowing that you helped to complete a family!

Cat Caretaker - Help keep the cat's homes looking their best. Get down and dirty cleaning up after our resident kitties. It's not glamorous, but the cats sure appreciate you for it. It's volunteering, but you get paid well in purrs and affection.

Fostering - Temporarily keep in your home animals that are too young, who need medical care before they can be placed in their forever homes, or just need a place to shack up for short time while their forever home is found.

Fundraising - WCDC often gets invited to community events to share information about our organization and responsible pet care. Help spread the word by helping staff a booth at a local event or adopt-a-thon.

Special Events - We often do both fundraising and off-site adoption events. We need lots of volunteers for a variety of tasks, from helping set up and take down, to holding and walking dogs, to post flyers, care for the animals, etc.

Transport - This could include taking cats or dogs to and from special events , i.e., offsite adoptions, or to and from medical appointments, or picking up new cats for the room.

Grant Writing - We are always in need of funds, and there are many grants available. If you have the time and experience, this is a great opportunity.

Newsletter Writing - We have recently started a monthly email newsletter and need people to contribute.

Photography - We have photos of our animals on Petfinder, our website, in a binder, and on flyers.

Clerical - Would include pre-assembly of blank adoption packets. This involves obtaining forms from PetSmart, ordering brochures, and copying and assembling materials for each packet. Person will coordinate getting the pre-prepped folders with the volunteer who finalizes the packets for each individual cat or kitten.

Computer/Data Entry - Enter information into online database for cats/kittens who have either been taken into the program for adoption or have been adopted to a new home. This includes online registration of cats/kittens with the 24Petwatch program. Requires attention to detail and access to a computer and the internet.

These are just some examples of how you can help out and are certainly not limited to those listed above.
